Northport K-8 Hosted Laser & Photonics Day on December 10, 2015

Northport K-8 hosted Laser and Photonics Lab Day on December 10, 2015 at the Northport STEaM Team Engineering Lab. The 7th and 6th graders guided the ESE students in understanding the fundamentals of photonics and its implementation. It was all hands-on and student led.

Christine Santos–Nurse, the Northport STEM–PLTW GTT Engineering, participated in several LASER-TEC professional development workshops and established the photonics lab at the school in 2013. Since then, photonics became a big part of the cross-discipline school curriculum. The Northport school Principal, Glen Rustay, supports LASER-TEC as a member of the National Visiting Committee, guiding the Center and offering his advice and profound insight on numerous issues arising in modern education.
