
LASER-TEC Participated in 22nd Annual ATE PI Conference
LASER-TEC participated at the 22 Annual conference National Principal Investigators Conference sponsored by AACC and NSF and traditionally hosted at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC in October 21-23, 2015.
The conference brought together approximately 850 people to focus on the critical issues related to advanced technological education. Key people working on ATE projects across the country participate in the conference. Conference attendees represent community colleges, business and industry, secondary school systems, four-year colleges, and research and development centers covering projects in a wide variety of areas such as: information technology, engineering technology, micro and nanotechnologies, chemical technology, biotechnology, and others.
LASER-TEC hosted a discussion on integration of laser technology modules and laser safety in advanced manufacturing college curriculum. In partnership with the other two NSF ATE photonics centers OP-TEC and MPEC, LASER-TEC hosted a showcase dedicated to the celebration of the International Year of Light 2015. Light plays a vital role in our daily lives and is an imperative cross-cutting discipline of science in the 21st century. It has revolutionized medicine, opened up international communication via the Internet, and continues to be central to linking cultural, economic and political aspects of the global society. In proclaiming an International Year focusing on the topic of light science and its applications, the UN has recognized the importance of raising global awareness about how light-based technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health.
